Kultivierung von Mikroorganismen kann auf einem gelartigen Nährmedium stattfinden, welches in eine flache, runde, durchsichtige Schale mit Deckel (die sogenannte Petrischale) eingebracht ist. Aufgrund des festen Gels wird eine Durchmischung der Mikroorganismen verhindert und es können größere Zellkulturansammlungen (Kolonien) wachsen. DURAN® Petrischalen werden durch ein spezielles Fertigungsverfahren aus Borosilikatglas 3.3 hergestellt. Sie ermöglichen eine gleichmäßige Nährbodenverteilung und gewährleisten eine verzerrungsfreie Durchsicht. Die Deckel der DURAN® Petrischalen liegen direkt auf dem Unterteil auf und verhindern so eine Verwirbelung des überstehenden Luftraums. Dies eignet sich gut für Reaktionen mit langen Inkubationszeiten, bei hohen Temperaturen oder mit empfindlichen Kulturmedien.
